What is the QAS?
Short for Question and Answer Service, the QAS is SAT’s way of clarifying student doubts about their scores, while also allowing new students plan and practice for their own exams. The US law requires test makers to provide copies of examinations they conduct to students, when it’s possible. It doesn’t say how often, or that it must be given for free. So SAT releases only a specific set of questions, a limited number of times per year and, as if paying for the exam wasn’t enough, they charge you a fee for the qas.

Even though you can use this to improve on your areas of weakness, SAT board emphasizes that the qas are not a study guide. Doesn’t change the fact that you can use it to guide your studies. If you plan on retaking your SAT, you definitely want a copy of the QAS, because even though the questions won’t be repeated, you can narrow down the difficulty and question types you don’t do well in.
Note that if you take your SAT test on a non qas eligible date, you won’t be successful in getting it from them. The QAS costs around $20, but those eligible for SAT waivers can get it for free. Once you request and pay for your qas, you won’t get a refund even if you cancel.
Student Answer Service Vs. Question and Answer Service
First, no one wants to order the SAS. The SAS literally gives you all the answers, but without the questions – like they expect everyone to have photographic memories. Unlike the SAS, the QAS is a wonderful learning resource. No one wants to just see answers. The only logical reason to request for a SAS is if you’re able to find the questions and difficulty levels of your previous test, because on its own, it’s laughably useless.
